On the way to Walnut Canyon Cabins and walking distance from Alamo Springs Cafe is Old Tunnel State Park. This is a tiny state park, the smallest in Texas in fact, and is just over 16 acres. Old Tunnel is named for the old train tunnel that runs through the front portion of the park.

On our walk this morning, with a very excited Bear, a truck pull over in front of us and set a box turtle in the grass. His passenger said “better than in the road!” I couldn’t agree more because I’ve done the same thing. I was heading home from being out of town with my
I couldn’t go to Texas Wine Country and not drink some Texas Wine. Keltin is not a big wine fan so I got to pick the tasting room and we decided to go to Becker Vineyards. They are actually located in Stonewall, Texas but have a store and tasting room in Fredericksburg. The store front
After the National Museum of the Pacific War we were starving, Main Street had gotten a lot busier that it had been at 9 am that morning and it was raining. That didn’t stop us from having a good time. After more deliberation on my part than I want to admit we headed over to
After a visit to the state capitol and much needed lunch Keltin and decided that we liked Congress Ave. Walking down it a bit we came across South Congress Books. Neither of us can pass up a used books store and wondering in was instinctual. The shop is small and was quite crowded. Each section
There are many places to stop and drink along Main Street in Fredericksburg, heck there is a one block wide but several block long stretch where you can drink as you walk along the street. Most of those places are wineries, it makes sense as we are in the heart of Texas Wine Country. But

This museum is massive as it covers all of the Pacific Theater during WWII and looks briefly at the history
During our recent trip to Fredericksburg we wanted to stay somewhere different. Keltin came across the Walnut Canyon Cabins. Wonderful and quiet. The property has seven cabins of varying sizes about 15 minutes from Fredericksburg. The roads to get there were lush with trees and wildflowers and in the evening – white tail deer. We
Short story time. I’m halfway through my two mile run on the back half of a nature preserve. And what comes scuttling across the path… a giant freaking tarantula. Me: please don’t let it chase me. I don’t like spiders and I’ve heard about tarantulas doing that. Spoiler: I don’t think he noticed me as
Keltin and I were starving after we reached Fredericksburg and after checking in we decided to stop in at a local burger joint that we had seen on the drive in. Alamo Springs Cafe isn’t exactly in the middle of nowhere but there are a couple of miles between in and the next nearest restaurant.
