This summer has been hot to say the least and nothing is better on a hot day than a glass of cold lemonade. Dressing up a glass of fresh squeezed lemonade is easy with a simple syrup.
Start off by making the Blueberry-Lavender Simple Syrup so that it has time to cool. I found this recipe when visiting the Hill Country Lavender Farm. Their site shows some other wonderful uses for this delicious syrup.
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup fresh blueberries
- 1 Tbsp culinary lavender
- In a small saucepan combine water, sugar and blueberries and bring to a boil.
- Stir until sugar is dissolved, muddle the blueberries.
- Remove from heat.
- Stir in lavender.
- Allow to cool to room temperature
- Strain to remove blueberries and lavender.
- Store in air tight container for later use.
Note: I really squished blueberries while straining them to get the deep purple color.

Now onto the lemonade recipe!
- 1 1/2 C. Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice with Pulp
- 7-8 C. Water
- 1 3/4 C. Sugar
- Bring 2 C. water and the sugar to a boil. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.
- Remove sugar water from heat and allow to cool.
- Combine sugar water, lemon juice, and remaining 5 C. of water.
- Serve over ice.
To make the blueberry-lavender lemonade you can do one of two things:
- Pour all of the blueberry syrup into the lemonade at once.
- Pour the blueberry syrup over each glass individually.
I went with the second option as I enjoy a stronger blueberry flavor. However you decide to make top it with fresh blueberries and enjoy!
