After visiting the Keystone Gallery and Historic Scott Lake State Park we headed to Scott City and visited the El Quartelejo Museum. This museum tells the history of the area surrounding Scott City – from prehistoric times to the present.
The museum is free to visit and is open Tuesday through Saturday 1pm to 5pm. The building also houses the Jerry Thomas Gallery and Collection. Jerry Thomas is a living artist and no recording can be done in the gallery with his art.
My favorite part of the museum was the fossil lab that they are building. Recently an amateur fossil hunter found an entire Plesiosaurus fossil and it will be reassembled in the museum’s fossil lab. When I saw it, it was still wrapped in the plaster they had used to transport it from the original dig site.
What do you think about ancient fossil skeletons and historic sites? Do you enjoy visiting small museums? Let me know in the comments! Safe travels!
