As you can tell from this post, I really love cooking with lavender. A while ago I had sent culinary lavender and a lavender cookbook to Keltin’s mom. We got to talking about recipes one afternoon and after looking through some of the recipes we decided to try the hot cocoa recipe.
Ingredients:
- ½ C. Sugar
- ¼ C. Cocoa
- Dash of Salt
- ⅓ C. Hot Water
- 4 C. Milk
- ¾ Tsp. Vanilla
- 1 Tsp Culinary Lavender
Directions:
- In a medium saucepan combine milk and finely ground culinary lavender. Bring to a simmer. Remove from heat, cover with a lid and allow to steep for 10 minutes.
- Mix sugar, cocoa, and salt in another saucepan stir in hot water. Cook and stir over medium heat until mixture comes to a boil. Boil and stir for 2 minutes.
- Strain lavender from warm milk.
- Stir in milk to cocoa mixture and heat but do not boil. Remove from heat and add vanilla.
**Note** Be careful while boiling the cocoa mixture, it expands and might overflow the pan. Once boiling I would turn the heat down to medium-high.

I really enjoyed this recipe. The lavender adds an earthy taste that helps to take hot cocoa up a notch and adds a little variety. If you want to see additional lavender recipes you can buy the cookbook we used here. Happy Cooking!
