It has been a while since I posted a writing exercise. This one was a fun one, we all contributed song lyrics and then drew one at random. From there we could write anything using the selected lyrics as inspiration. I don’t remember the song my lyrics were from but I did use them to write a poem.
As always, I have only made edits for spelling and readability.
There used to be a graying tower
Alone on the sea
In silence I searched
Strained for a spark
Of brightness
of hope
Cries of gulls echoed
Among hollow coves
As silence resonated
Within vacant chambers
Of my shattered heart
Until one dawn
A flower bloomed
Upon moss of green
Golden rays illuminated sails
Flying over sapphire depths
Savior of flame
Blazing as wildfire
Darkness fled
They are the light
Brightness becomes pain
Those empty chambers
Sag,
drip,
melt
away…
High tide rolls in
Sweeping the ashes
That were me out
to sea
Consciousness slips beneath waves
They sail away, searching
For other darkness
To scorch away.

I’m working on my poetry and this was a fun prompt. I hope that you enjoyed this bit. Do you write poetry? Let me know in the comments.
