San Francisco: Hotel Zoe

While in San Francisco we stayed a couple of nights at the Hotel Zoe in the Fisherman’s Wharf. We did rent a car to drive to Napa but we rented it from the rental location in Fisherman’s Wharf and not at the airport to save money on both the rental and on parking fees. All in all this was a nice hotel with great staff.

Pros

  • In the Fisherman’s Wharf section of San Francisco.
  • Walking distance to the Cable Car.
  • Restaurant in the hotel.
  • Bike rental discounts deals with Blazing Saddles Bike rentals.
  • Walking distance from an Enterprise Rental Car location.
  • Walking distance to Pier 39 and Pier 41 and the ferry to Sausalito.

Cons

  • There are no coffee makers in the room, the hotel does serve coffee and tea starting at 6:30am.
  • I have no idea if they have parking, if they do it is probably expensive because everything is expensive in San Francisco.

Napa: Embassy Suites

We stayed at the Embassy Suites in Napa. Yes, there are a variety of very nice boutique hotels in Napa and Sonoma but they are expensive. My general opinion on hotels is that unless you are going to be spending a lot of time at the hotel itself, then a super expensive one is not worth it. There were 4 of us sharing a room and at this hotel we had two queen beds and a fold out couch.

Pros

  • The price of parking is included.
  • Close to downtown Napa.
  • Cute rental courtyard.
  • The hotel will allow you to store your bags if you arrive before check-in time and have vineyard appointments booked.
  • Large rooms for a reasonable price.
  • Breakfast is included.
  • Domino’s will deliver to your room.

Cons

  • It’s not a cute as a boutique hotel.
Hotel Courtyard

If you aren’t planning an event at a hotel then go for somewhere reasonably priced with good reviews. Pick a location that allows you to explore the city you are visiting – safely. Do you have tips and rules you follow for booking a hotel? Let me know in the comments! Safe travels.

  1. No hotel recommendations, but if you ever find yourself in the Laguna Niguel area of California, there’re some good restaurants along the beach (or were–haven’t been there in years), and there is/was a good clothing store to visit called Crazy Shirts.
