Colorado: Downtown Denver Walking-Tour

We had gone to Denver for a family reunion. We met up at Brewfest and for a Colorado Rockies game. Yes, the Rockies did win in a 10th inning game against the San Francisco Giants with 4 runs to 3 in a division game. The next morning Keltin and I had time to kill before meeting up with friends and decided to explore the area.

When we visited Denver a couple of years ago the 16th Street Mall was really cool and great for pedestrians. Well, the mall is getting an upgrade so there was not as much to see but we did still get some cool photos. The area in the map below roughly the area we explored. Not all of it was on foot as we did take advantage of the 16th Street Bus system. This particular bus route is free to ride.

From our Airbnb we headed to Coors Field, home of the Colorado Rockies. We had watched the game there the evening before but we had to capture the front of the stadium on film as we walked past on our way to Union Station. This is a fun stadium to watch a ball game in and has a great view of downtown.

We did not want to drag all of our luggage all over Denver, it was impractical and too hot. Instead you can pay a small fee to store your bags at Union Stations. This was wonderful and was 100% worth what we paid. We were able to explore unhindered and picked up our bags before catching a train from Union Station to the airport.

At the end of the 16th Street Mall is the Colorado Capitol Building with its golden dome gleaming bright in the summer sun. Tours of the Capitol Building are free Monday thru Friday and yes you can climb the 99 stairs of the dome. More information can be found here.
