Rocky Mountains: Buena Vista Restaurants

We visited Buena Vista a couple of times over the course of the trip and both were for food although we did enjoy the river walk area near South Main Street also.

Our first visit was after a long day spent visiting:

Arkansas River near South Main

Keltin and I needed food and really wanted a beer since we were heading past we decided to stop in Buena Vista and headed down to their up and coming South Main area near the Arkansas River. This is a newer area that is wonderfully walkable with lots of housing, a few business and a large park in the center. This area isn’t perfect but it is a good example of mixed use zoning. We decided to have dinner at Eddyline Brewery. The line was long but was moving quickly. I liked the way that they handled thing in that you ordered and then were seated.

I remember the beer we had but I was so tired I honestly have no idea what either of us had for dinner. They did have quick service and their patio is dog friendly. They made sure to give all the dogs attention.

  • Lemon Shandy – Bright and citrusy without being bitter.
  • Kickin-Back Amber – This was a little too dark for a warm summer day but would be perfect for autumn.

After dinner we walked down to enjoy the view of the Arkansas River. The area has some wonderfully goofy sitting areas that a made to look like living rooms but these mosaic sitting rooms aren’t soft like your couch.

Keltin squished into an arm chair.

The only other place in Buena Vista we visited was K’s Dairy Delite after our hike in Brown’s Canyon. The line was long but the food was worth it. Their menu is limited: traditional burgers, chicken strips, fries, onion rings, soda, and shakes. They are completely unhealthy and delicious and everything went down very well after a long, hot hike.

Looking up the Arkansas River.

Keltin and I did not get to spend enough time in Buena Vista but the time we did spend there was wonder. The small city has some great food and wonderful places to walk after having eaten too much. Have you visited Buena Vista? Let me know in the comments. Leave no trace and safe travels!

  1. Did you guys get any fishing in while in the area? The Arkansas is a great place for fly fishing. ‘Buenie’ is a funny little town. The correctional facility isn’t a great draw through town but I think they’re trying to improve their tourist rep with more artistic draws and brew pubs. That mosaic wing chair is amazing!
