The Shady Llama

I found this beer garden when searching for things to do in Wimberly and it is a must do – even if you don’t drink. They have plenty of non-alcoholic options. They serve a selection of local beer and wine along with some fun and delicious mocktails. The Shady Llama is a large outdoor beer garden situated on top of a hill facing west. From anywhere in the garden you can look out over the Texas Hill Country and in the evening, it is the best place to watch a sunset.

In addition to having the best views they also have llamas and miniature donkeys! The animals have a 40 acre pasture in which to roam but often come up to the fence to enjoy some hay and attention from visitors.

The Shady Llama doesn’t serve food but they do allow outside food and during less crazy times have a food truck onsite. When we visited we picked up dinner from The Leaning Pear. We decided on food from The Leaning Pear because it was on the list of recommended places from both The Shady Llama and in a Getaway list of good local places to try. The pizza was excellent and the online ordering and pickup were super easy.

The Shady Llama was perfect for social distancing and the staff and atmosphere are both fantastic. Go for the sunset and for the llamas.
