We have been doing are best to hike local trails. It is fun and gives us an opportunity to really explore the area. Many of the local trails are along various parts of Lake Grapevine. The Cross Timbers Trail is open to hikers and those on horseback. This trail is listed as an equestrian trail but over the past couple of years there has been a lot of flooding in the area around the lake and while the trail is fine for hikers I would not take a horse on it.

This trail is rated moderate but the only difficult aspect is finding the trail sometimes due to the past flooding. The trails are hard packed and the water crossings were fairly easy. However, they were fairly steep so after a good rain the stream probably swells and runs quickly.

There are no trail markers on the Cross Timbers trail but most of the time it is easy to follow. The parking lot is gravel and there is no fee to park.

Overall this was a pretty trail but probably not one that I would do again. We did see a few others hiking but not many. Dogs are allowed on the trail.

Happy Hiking!

What a wild hike that looks, great photos. Love the name of the trail too, the Cross Timbers Trail sounds great.
