Title: Fate of the Fallen
Author: Kel Kade
Publication Date: 2019

So this was my October 2019 Book of the Month… and I didn’t finish the book until after Christmas. And none of that is the book’s fault.

The Shroud of Prophecy tests fate to discover what happens when the path of good and right, the triumph of light over darkness, the only path to salvation… fails. Everyone loves Mathias. So naturally, when he discovers it’s his destiny to save the world, he dives in head first, pulling his best friend Aaslo along for the ride. Mathias is thrilled for the adventure! There’s nothing better than a road beneath his feet and adventure in the air. Aaslo, on the other hand, has never cared for the world beyond the borders of his sleepy village and would be much happier alone and in the woods. But, someone has to keep the Chosen One’s head on his shoulders and his feet on the ground.

This book is about fighting on despite the odds and gives the “chosen one” stories a fantastic twist. I really enjoyed the story in general but there are some points that drag. There are various points that could be expanded on but this is also the first book in the series and it is possible that those points could be expanded in the later books.

Aaslo is a great character, positive and driven. Mathias, is quite the golden boy with the weight of the world and the hope of all on his shoulders. I am excited to see how this story plays out, excited to see how the gods meddle in the lives of mortals and how those mortals change their fate. Recommended for fans of fantasy, fans of magic, and fans of a good story.
