Hiking Huntsville State Park

The weather has gotten really nice lately and on the way back from Houston recently I decided to stop and visit Huntsville State Park. The cool weather and and the beauty of the trees were calling my name and Bear and I needed a hike. The day we went the park was quite busy – in part to a bike race going on.

We hiked half of the loop of the Prairie Branch Trail. The other half of the loop was part of the bike race course and we decided to stay off of it. The trail was beautiful and just what we needed after too much time in the city.

You can see the lake off in the distance.

The Prairie Branch Trail actually leads right to a trail in the Sam Houston National Forest. If I had had more time I would have explored the national forest. Needless to say I can’t wait to go back.

This trail was gorgeous and there is much more of the state park for me to explore. If this trip was any indication then I bet the rest of the park is just as fantastic.

Have you ever visited this state park? If so, what did you think? Where is your favorite park to visit? Please remember wherever you go be it city, mountains or beach – leave no trace and leave every place better than you found it. Safe travels.
