New Mexico: Santa Fe Brewing Company

I realized as I was writing my 2018 year in review post that I had not written about the Santa Fe Brewing Company. For this oversight I’m blaming my busy holiday schedule. After the mass ascension at the balloon fiesta Keltin and I and our friends headed to Santa Fe.

I love the square in down town Santa Fe and all the artists selling their creations. I might have indulged and bought Christmas gifts but I feel that buying handmade goods from local artists is better than giving things bought from a big store. Anyway, we went to lunch at a local restaurant and I got my first taste of Santa Fe Brewing with their Nut Brown Ale.

After exploring the square a bit more and some local ice cream we headed out to the Santa Fe Brewing Company Taproom.

The taproom is a little bit of a drive outside of Santa Fe, mostly towards Albuquerque and was a good stop on the way back. As we were driving we couldn’t try much but a flight allowed us to at least sample many of their beers. They have quite a selection.

Our Flight Selections:

• Free Style Pilsner
• State Pen Porter
• Imperial Java Stout
• Chicken Killer (Barley Wine)
• Hefeweisen

I really enjoyed most of these. The main exception being the stout. It is a Java Stout and I typically really like coffee but this was just a bit too much for me. As for the Chicken Killer, I really don’t know enough about barley wines to know if this was a good one. A friend of mine that drinks craft beer said it is his favorite. So I think it probably is. I enjoyed it and would drink it again. My favorite beer from the flight was the porter. Just a nice well balanced beer.

We had a good, if short time at the taproom and given the chance I’d visit again. If you are in the area and you like craft beer, check out this brewing company.
