The prompt for this piece was to pick a photo and use it to inspire a written piece. I absolutely loved following the Artemis II mission. It was absolutely incredible and this is not my first Artemis II inspired piece, read the first one.
I pulled one of the eclipse photos from the mission because they always make me feel awe. The time, energy, innovation, drive, and courage that it took for us to get to space and take this photo is just astounding. While this photo is from NASA I actually pulled it from Hank Green’s Artemis II Timeline.
Humanity
Darkness, the void, we are spinning endlessly.,
Endlessly through the blackness of space.
And this image, the farthest humanity has ever been from Earth, makes me cry.
Not from fear or from anxiety but from awe.
Awe that we, a primate species, are capable of space travel.
We learned to use tools,
To walk upright.
We learned to fly,
To break gravity.
We learned how to come home.
