Northern Ireland: Foyle Books

While exploring Darry/Londondarry we came across one of our favorite things: a used book store. We could have spent all day in there. The proprietors at Foyle Books were wonderful and were more than happy to help me find books written by local Irish artists.

I will admit that I requested no Irish poets because I had read a number in high school and college and I think I almost committed a crime in their eyes. I quickly explained that I only wanted to read authors I hadn’t read before. They were more than happy to suggest a number of books. I selected three.

I picked up the following regional literature books:

  • Tennis Lessons by Susannah Dickey
  • Snow by John Banville
  • Collected Short Stories by Michael McLaverty

Keltin also found a book called Kansas Irish about Irish families that had moved to Kansas. Apparently the book had been in the shop about three years just waiting for us to walk in.

If you are in Darry and enjoy books, I highly suggest Foyle Books for a good selection and good conversation. Do you have a favorite used book store? Let me know in the comments. Happy reading!
