Life has been busy recently and has taken time away from writing. I turned 30 over the weekend. It is kind of surreal, I do and I don’t feel older. In one way it is just another day but it is also a milestone that we have culturally attached importance to. As I worked on wrapping my mind around everything, I celebrated by spending time with my family. We couldn’t all get together at once so we just celebrated all weekend. I had a wonderful weekend and smiled the whole time.
One of the things that we did was visit the Deep Ellum Arts Festival. This was a free festival and there was so much wonderful art in so many styles! The festival was popular and the street was packed. However, in addition to the artists there were plenty of food and drink vendors to make sure no one was too parched. The festival is dog friendly but it was so crowded and hot that I would not have felt comfortable bringing Bear.
Deep Ellum is the wilder part of Dallas, there are tons of restaurants, bars, music venues, along with a variety of other shops. This area is meant to be walked. The area is good during the day but does get wild at night. Also if you drive down to Deep Ellum, beware that parking is beyond difficult.

I had a wonderful birthday weekend with family and many birthday wishes. What are your birthday plans this year? Do you enjoy festivals? Let me know in the comments and have a great week!

I love all the street are down there and I’ve had some fantastic food for hole-in-the-wall places.
