Title: Sword of Destiny
Author: Andrzej Sapkowski, David French (Translator)
Publication Date: 1992, 2015
Publishing House: Orbit
This book falls after The Last Wish. The Witcher Saga does end oddly but I couldn’t leave a book unread especially one of the early ones. Beside I borrowed this book from the library and that is always worth it.
Synopsis from Goodreads
Geralt is a witcher, a man whose magic powers, enhanced by long training and a mysterious elixir, have made him a brilliant fighter and a merciless assassin. Yet he is no ordinary murderer: his targets are the multifarious monsters and vile fiends that ravage the land and attack the innocent.
This is a collection of short stories, following the adventures of the hit collection THE LAST WISH. Join Geralt as he battles monsters, demons and prejudices alike…
I really love the episodic nature of the first two books in the Witcher Saga. They are less dark than the main series and have some wonderful plays on Brothers Grimm and Anderson fairy tales. This book also delves more into some of Geralt’s relationships: friendly and romantic alike.
This world is full of monsters but the monsters are not always the ones that look like unnatural things. Geralt is the last of a few. His trade should be black and white. Slay monsters and get paid but in an evolving world Geralt is realizing that he has to be open to change too.
I suggest this book for those of fantasy, for fans of The Witcher show that are looking to read the books. Let me know what you think of this series. Looking forward to hearing from you in the comments. Happy reading!
