Title: Mistborn: The Final Empire
Author: Brandon Sanderson
Publication Date: 2006
Publishing House: Tor Books

How have I only just now read this book? I actually borrowed the digital audio-book from the library and this book is fantastic and had me up until one and two in the morning.

From Goodreads:

Where ash falls from the sky, and mist dominates the night, evil cloaks the land and stifles all life. Criminal mastermind Kelsier teaches Allomancy, the magic of metals, to another Mistborn, urchin Vin 16. The unlikely heroine is distracted by rich Venture heir Elend. Can Kelsier’s thieving crew take on the tyrant Lord Ruler and bring back colour to their world?

I loved this book from the moment I started it which is going to make this review super biased but these characters, I’m in love. The story starts with Kelsier, an Allomancer and a survivor, giving news of the outside world to the beaten down skaa on a plantation. Kelsier is rash and over confident, he is secretive and infuriating but he is always loyal, passionate, and he cares for his friends and crew. This is not a perfect character but he is a good one.

Vin for her part starts as an untrusting and friendless orphan, abandoned by her own brother and left under the thumb of a brutal crew leader in the underworld before falling in with Kelsier’s crew on his biggest job. As she works this job Vin see the changes in herself and allows herself to act on those changes when old instincts want to hold her back.

There is always another secret…

I recommend this book for fans of fantasy, fans of magic, and fans of heists. Stay safe.
