Title: An Unkindness of Magicians
Author: Kat Howard
Publication Date: 2017
Publishing House: SAGA PRESS
Keltin gifted me this book for Christmas this last year and a long holiday weekend was the perfect time to finish it. This is a book of magic and revenge. The Unseen World is made up of magician. Powerful Houses that rule from the shadows. During the turning, a call for a change in power, enter Sydney, an unknown factor.
Howard does a great job with this book. It opens, not quite with a bang but with something equally impressive. The rules of magic are illustrated slowly, letting the reader understand the price bit by bit. Allies and friends can be just as dangerous as known enemies.
There is a lot that I enjoyed about this book, the story itself, the characters, the rules of magic. The only thing that I was not a fan of was some of the early set up before the rising action. It was a bit too telling and not enough showing. Be that as it may, I inhaled the last half in one sitting and I’m interested in reading her other book Roses and Rot.
Recommended for fans of magic, urban fantasy, and those not scared of a bit of blood.

Oh I love these kind of stories, thanks for the tip! I’ll see if the library has it.

Arr, I love they title. It be sounding like one of those weird collective noun terms like a murder of crows or a clash of rhinos. If it isn’t, it should ought to be.
