Weekend Wanderings: Texas Roadside Stands

Many states have roadside stands but because I’m from Texas I’m particularly fond of ours. Recently I visited two: a firework stand and a sweet corn stand. Now firework stands are a dime a dozen in the couple of weeks preceding the fourth of July and New Years Eve. Different cities have different laws regarding fireworks in the city limits but the country is fair game (unless there is a burn ban). We love our fireworks and I am no exception.

I was heading up to watch a fireworks show so I didn’t buy much but I love sparklers. A couple years ago I made the mistake of wearing flip-flops while playing with sparklers. Unfortunately for me my boyfriend get the moment the spark hit my foot on my camera. Anyway, next time you are in Texas around a holiday where pyrotechnics are allowed and expected. Stop by a little roadside stand and get your fireworks buy one get one free.

The other roadside stand that I stopped at pre-fourth of July was Fuhrmann Sweetcorn on highway 82 outside of Lindsay, TX. $5 got you a bag of corn with 20 ears. I should have bought more than just one bag. That stuff was good, especially cooked on the grill. When we arrived they had recently sold out of corn and had gone to pick more. This is a well known roadside stop in the area. Unfortunately, they are sold out of corn already this year but if you are in the area next year make sure to stop by with a bit of cash – it is definitely worth it. Check out there website here for updates.

Let me know about your favorite roadside stands and if they are near me, maybe I can check them out. Have a great weekend!
