By The prompt this week was to write a misunderstanding, feel free to intemperate it however you want. I went a bit meta and wrote something that is a bit more of a discussion.

Something a Bit Meta on the Misunderstandings
The misunderstanding, the miscommunication; I dislike that trope in any genre, but particularly in romance books. It is not lazy necessarily because it can be done well. This trope bothers me because communication is the key to any healthy relationship.
Not that romance books are exactly healthy.
At least not at first.
Some not ever. That’s a different problem.
Maybe it’s just the lazy writing misunderstandings that bother me. The ones where the character is too prideful to actually talk to their love interest and clear things up. Or it is the writer choosing for these characters to not finish the conversation. A well timed interruption can be used once but it needs to be something legitimate. I also dislike when those non-ended conversations linger, the characters just don’t get back to the conversation for a 100 pages and it makes things for everyone, including the reader. Second hand embarrassment is a no-go for me. It makes me pause books and I have to work to get through the scene.
Maybe I’m a judgmental reader. Maybe I just know what I like and dislike at this point.
Note to self: make sure the communication in your own writing is clear between the characters.
