We were in Estes Park for a family reunion and we did a ton of stiff while there. Some of this stuff we did with a lot of family, some was just with a small group. All of it was fun. We did a lot of things for a variety of fitness levels. The Via Ferrata was the most intense and the Aerial Tram was the least intense.
Would you do any of these things? Have you in the past and what did you think? Let me know in the comments and safe travels.
Estes Park
- Via Ferrata – I will admit that the Via Ferrata was a bit disconcerting at first and you can 100% hear it in the video but it really was fun once I had time to reflect. If you aren’t a fan of heights, I don’t recommend. If you want something that is a fairly safe adventure, I 100% recommend. I will love to do this again.
- Mustang Mountain Coaster – We did the mountain coater with a lot of family. Even those that didn’t want to ride were able to hang out and watch. We paid for 3 rides, which was fun because apparently I went too slow on the first run so my family decided to go in front of me on the later ride. I didn’t use the brake on my last ride.
- Aerial Tram – The tram is kind of expensive but we took it because it allowed my Nana to get an aerial view without having to hike. That being said, you do need to be able to walk to really enjoy the top area and line up to go back down the tram. Park of the area is on metal walkways and part is natural dirt trails.
- Stanley Hotel – Ghosts! Okay, we took the historical tour but you do get to hear lots of ghost stories. This tour is copyrighted, so don’t record it. This hotel did inspired The Shinning but the movie was not filmed here. There was a later TV show that was filmed here. This tour was a lot of walking and there are a decent number of stairs. This was fun but probably not something I would do again.
- Gem Lake Trail – This trail is at Rocky Mountain National Park, you do need a timed entry during certain times of the day. This isn’t really a difficult trail. If you are not accustomed to the altitude, it might kick your butt a little, it did mine. No pets are allowed on the trail. This is a popular trail and was busy, that being said, sitting at the lake was really chill. Everyone kinda kept to the groups they had hiked up with, just relaxing.
