Writing Club: Poetry – Euphemism

In the continuation of working with figurative language, this prompt was to use euphemisms.

Euphemism: Figure of speech that replaces a harsh, direct, or unpleasant term with a milder, more indirect expression (Grammarly.com).

We must be free-spirited
And strong-willed
While going
Toe-to-toe
With those a bit too
economical with the truth
They aren’t even trying to
Hide their light-fingered ways

So we have to stand up in numbers,
Give ‘em the old one-two
Until they’re out
And their careers
Six-feet-under

They aren’t prepared
For the tussle.
Maybe we should
take a page from
The French’s book
They know how to stand
So too shall we.
