It has been a long time since I’ve done a Close to Home post where I talk about the importance of exploring places near to where you live that are often over looked because they are just in your backyard.
We went on a ghost tour of the Fort Worth Stockyards. This tour is run by Cowtown Winery, and yes, they gave me permission to film before I booked the tour. The images used in the video below were sourced from the Stockyards Museum. They were also wonderful to work with for this project.
This ghost tour was a ton of fun. The guide, Ivan, was great. He provided a lot of history in the area, not just the ghost stories. I would take a history tour with him but the spooky elements add a lot, especially at night. There are a lot of ghost stories that did not make it into this video. The tour was two hours. I will make a note, the history of this area is dark: there were slaughterhouse at the stockyards, the area had prostitution in various states of legality, there was murder, and a fire that killed people and animals. I don’t discuss all of that in the video below but some of it is addressed.
Do you enjoy ghost tours? Have you been on one? Let me know what you think in the comments. Keep your eyes open.
