Writing Group: Poetry-Hyperbole

The prompt this week was to write a poem with a hyperbole. Some were serious, mine was written to be funny.

Hyperbole: exaggerated statements or claims not meant to be taken literally (Grammarly.com).

Also, I am sorry for not posting more. In addition to the normally busy life I lead, the holidays are upon us. I hope the holidays are treating you all well. Enjoy this silly poem.

The monster stares me down.
Nose twitching, snuffling
Taking in my fear.
Shaggy fur, beady eyes
It takes a step
Closer to me
I squeak in terror
Sweat rolling down my back
Stinging my eyes
Blinking rapidly
I notice it has inched closer
My legs won’t move
Frozen my mind shrieks
No no no
I can’t die like this!
Nearer it comes
The tap of nails echo
Bouncing off the concrete floor
I close my eyes,
Press against the walls
Sure this is the end
Then the skittering moves past
Fading down the hall
I peek open my eyes to see
The long tail of the rat
Rounding the corner.
