Writing Group: Poetry – Antithesis

I try and do poetry once a month and lately I’ve been highlighting using Figurative Language. This week we looked at antithesis. My hope with this is to make writing club members aware of tools that they can use later in other writing projects.

Antithesis: uses parallel structure to juxtapose contrasting ideas. (Grammarly.com)

This prompt inspired some beautiful pieces. One of them could be a children’s book about learning how to accept and love yourself. Mine is not that good but that does not mean that I’m not happy with it. Let me know what you think in the comments.

The world is designed for
morning people
Up early, busy early
Don’t get me wrong,
I love a sunrise
But the night is quiet.

The world expects us
To be available 24/7
That is a cause for anxiety
All creatures need rest
Need peace away from
Constant communication.

The world revolves around
The desires of the few
Ignoring the needs
Of the many
Until we rise up
Fighting for what
we deserve

We deserve quiet
and peace
and rest.
We deserve
to live well.
