Writing Club: Poetry – Alliteration

I’m behind on posting. I feel like this is a consistent problem. Anyway, I am consistent with writing club and one of the things that I’ve started doing is highlighting figurative language. This week’s was alliteration.

Definition: Alliteration refers to repeating consonant sounds right next to each other, which creates a memorable or melodic effect. (Grammarly.com)

I chose mine to be fall themed. What are you’r feelings on figurative language? Do you have a favorite? Let me know in the comments.

Lingering leaves lightly land upon
ground grown hard in
summer’s scorching sun.
Days should be settling,
awaiting autumn’s more
tepid temperature.
But dog days drag on,
leaving behind humid heat
even as the spooky spiders
and smiling skeletons
adorn doorways and dark spaces.

Come fall, fill months with
Frosty morns, misty dawns,
deepening dusks.
Turn tall trees tawny.
Wishing for heavens to hang
heavy with sleet swollen storms.

Arrive autumn we ask,
Truly appear in the state
Where false fall is
all too authentic.
