The idea with this prompt was to start with free verse poetry and add an element of form poetry to making writing a bit more of a challenge. Examples:
- Refrains (Think Villanelle)
- Meter (various)
- Rhyme scheme (various)
- Specific line count
- Theme (Looking at you Ode)
The form poetry element was left up to the writer, I just provided suggestions. I chose to play with a Sonnet (14 lines – turn at line 13-14) but instead of doing Iambic Pentameter I did six beats per line. Is it a perfect poem? Nope, but it does help me learn to write in ways that challenge me a bit.
Are there particular poetry elements that you like to use? Let me know in the comments. Happy writing.
Stories come out to play
Tales immemorial
Passed down through the ages
Once oral traditions
Nemonic epithets
Wise Odysseus to
The grey-eyed goddess Athena
Epic tales – in medias res
Unforgotten, ever
Morphing in meaning for
The next generation
Classic inspiration
From them we build new tales
Begin a new Odyssey
