Writing Group: Poetry Element

The prompt for this poem was pick a poem, any poem ,and take a single element that you like from that poem and write your own poem using that element. I selected My Last Duchess by Robert Browning. This poem is deceptively dark and messed up. That is not the element I chose to replicate, this poem is also a conversation but the reader only sees what the speaker of the poem has to say, not the person they are “speaking” to. The writer in this case is not the speaker in the poem.

Yes, this poem is based on my manuscript. If you want an update I’m on chapter 12 of the rewrite. Yes, rewrite, same story line but hopefully better than the last version. Wish me luck.

There is my current manuscript
cursor blinking, mockingly, on the page.
The plot you ask? A romance.
Ah, I see you are a connoisseur,
paranormal romance with gods
and power and pride.
Which god? Well, truly a goddess.
Yes, Aphrodite, goddess of love
mother to Eros, protector
of Trojan hero Aeneas.
Though she is a catalyst
this tale is not hers.
Whose story is it you ask? Spoilers.
Read and learn of respect and control,
explore trust and love.
No, it is not yet complete.
Do not give me that look.
Soon enough that cursor will move
producing words under my hands.
Until then let me show other works
I am sure you will enjoy.
