Niagara Falls: Canadian Attractions

One comment

After spending the better part of two days exploring the US side on Niagara Falls it was time to explore the Canadian side of the Niagara River.

Skylon Tower

I probably would not eat at the Skylon Tower again. The food was overpriced for what it is, but it’s not bad. Visitors are defiantly paying for the view. That being said, it was worth it to go up to the observation deck. The view of the falls and the Niagara River was really neat. Maybe I’m just a sucker for a birds-eye view.

White Water Walk

In last weeks’s post I mentioned that visitors could see the rapids from Whirl Pool State Park in New York. You can see and hear them up close from the Canadian side by going on the White Water Walk boardwalk. It does cost to do this attraction. It is wheelchair friendly. If you are pushing someone in a wheelchair, when you buy your tickets tell them you need an assist ticket. This is a reduced price ticket for the person assisting the person in the mobility device. We discovered this because my sister was recovering from a broken leg and spent some time in a wheelchair on this trip.

I really did enjoy this boardwalk, the canyon the rapids flow down and the roar of the river are absolutely beautiful but I don’t know if it’s worth the cost at $19 Canadian per adult.

Niagara City Cruises | Fireworks Cruise

We took this tour on our last night in Niagara. I couldn’t care less about the fireworks but I did love seeing the falls at night. They are so pretty, the way they have the lights set up to illuminate the falls and the way the spray from the falls catches the light is just beautiful.

The Tunnel & Power Station

This might honestly have been my favorite excursion and it was something that we did on our last morning in Niagara before heading to the airport. The science and history of this hydroelectric power station made my little nerd heart happy.

The coolest (in my opinion) part of this is The Tunnel. Yep, that’s the way it’s marketed. The Tunnel is the old water return tunnel when the hydroelectric power station was in use. The Tunnel is almost half a mile long and comes out nearish the base of the Canadian/Horseshoe falls. It is a MASSIVE tunnel, the sheer volume of water that it can hold is wild. As you walk down the tunnel they have informational signs talking about what is above the tunnel and there is a small section in the wall that has been cut out to display some of the layers of the tunnel. You can check it out in my video below. I’m not an engineer but you don’t have to be to appreciate it.

This attraction is kind of expensive to visit ($32 Canadian per adult) but again it is worth the cost. This is another attraction where if you have a member of your part in a mobility device, the person helping them can request an assist ticket.
