Niagara Falls: a blast from this blog’s past. I really did not mean to delay this series so long. About the time I did pause it was when I started writing my manuscript. I fell down a writing rabbit hole and only crawled out recently. While my manuscript is with a beta reader I’m going to work on some things I’ve been delaying before I put the editing blinders back on.
For all of our adventures on the US side of the falls we used a tour company called Niagara Regional Tours. We had the same guide for both the winery tour and our falls tour and she was fantastic, a wealth of information. My sister was also recovering from a broken leg at this time and our guide pushed her in a wheelchair all day on our falls tour. 100% recommend them for the quality of the service provided.
Maid of the Mist
The Maid of the Mist is the boat service on the US side that takes visitors up to the falls. The company is located in Niagara Falls State Park but it is a separate business. If you ride on the Maid of the Mist and you stand at the front of the boat you are going to get wet. They do provide a poncho, keep it if you are going to go to the Cave of the Winds afterwards – this is the superior of the provided ponchos.

Cave of the Winds
Not really a cave… there used to be an overhang here at the base of Bridal Veil Falls. That overhang has long since fallen. Use the poncho you were given on the Maid of the Mist for the Cave of the Winds, it’s just a bit better quality. Cave of the Winds is a boardwalk that goes up close to the falls. You can see in the video below that that the water is a wild force. It might be super touristy but I really loved this experience.
Niagara Falls State Park
When you get through Passport Control on the US side you are in Niagara Falls State Park. We walked around the state park a lot after the wet part of the day. There is a great view of the falls from Terrapin Point on Goat Island. If you want to visit a less tourist dense part of the park check out the Three Sisters Islands. They might be haunted, let me know if you see the ghost in monk’s robes.
Whirlpool State Park
Whirlpool State Park is a free state park to visit. It is fairly small but it was a great place to sit and eat lunch. The trail leads along a cliff ledge that overlooks the rapids that are river from Niagara Falls and the whirlpool. These rapids are level 4 or 5 terminal rapids, meaning that they will kill people who try to navigate them. This section of the Niagara River is not kind. You can see the rapids up close if you take the White Water Walk on the Canadian side of the river but more on that later.

We had an absolute blast exploring all that Niagara Falls had to offer on the US side of things. It might be touristy but there is a reason people are fascinated by the absolute force of nature that is these falls. Have you done any of these things? Are they on your bucket list? Let me know in the comments.
