I ended up doing two book exchanges this year and they were both a lot of fun – if very different.
Pachouli Joe’s Book Exchange
Pachouli Joe’s is one of my favorite local indie bookstores and for the holidays where they did a book exchange. Customers wrote out a list of books that they wanted and bought someone else a book from their list.
I bought someone Mistborn: The Final Empire because the whole series is a great read. Someone selected Consider Me from my list. It’s a hockey romance, I have a preferred romance type apparently. Once all the books were in the shop had a book exchange party. We all opened our books and got to meet other people that enjoy reading. It was a fun couple of hours and a good way to meet other readers in the community.
This was Pachouli Joe’s first time doing an event like this but if they do it again I’ll defiantly be participating. Have you ever done a book exchange like this?

Friendsmas Book Exchange
The writing group that I’m part of also did a book exchange. We did this kind of like a white elephant gift exchange. We all brought a wrapped book (new, used, or one you had at home) with a short description written on it. We picked books to unwrap based off the description or stole them from others. Chaos and laughter ensued when the book steals started. All-in-all this was a fun way to share our favorite and it gives us a chance to read a book that someone else loves.
I gave a copy of Murtagh (not the one pictured above) and I ended up with a copy of Bunny that I am excited to read.

Have you ever done a book exchange? If so, what is your preferred way? Let me know in the comments and happy reading!

What a great idea! I’ll have to remember that next year.

Not like these, but I have exchanged copies of my first book with other authors, who gave me copies of theirs. The catch was that we’d review them.
Some other events I’ve been to have had free book tables where we could leave and take used books.
