The prompt this week was monster as symbols. I went with one of my favorites, of course: the werewolf. Honesty, I’m not sure why I love them so much. I think it has to do with this idea of a monster inside but I also like the more modern notions that when the person shifts the being is not necessarily a blood thirst beast. What do you think about werewolves? Let me know in the comments. Happy Halloween
I used to fear the monster inside me. That dark thing inside my skin that was clawing, clawing clawing to get out. The beast that was always hungry for blood. A darkness that when it managed to escape went on a rampage. Howling at the moon and slaying indiscriminately. As regularly as the moon phases I would bleed and then the world would.
Until I met another of my kind. A kindred soul that showed me that the destruction could be directed if not exactly controlled. They taught me many things. We are not things to be tamed, not creatures to be used by others. No, we are meant to use the beast inside to inspire the fragile human they hide inside. And those nights when the creature once known as a monster emerges, we are meant to direct it at those that make others lives harder.
I don’t always like the blood though. Especially having seen my kind slaughtered with silver by the fearful. Oftentimes now I direct my creature to run beneath that brilliant silver face, feeling the earth beneath my paws, the scent of the forest in my nose. I have changed, I no longer fear the monster in me. I fear the monsters out there.

I’ve been interested in writing a werewolf story for a long time.
