Writing Group: Poetry: Celestial Bodies

The theme for this week at writing group was cycles. I wrote about how celestial bodies were all interconnected. This poem was meant to be about constellations initially but it grew. I might actually workshop it a bit to clean it up and include some additional cycles like moon phases and potentially include additional constellations.

Let me know what you think and tell me the names of your favorite stars or constellations (and the season when you see it). Happy writing!

Go, escape the lights
Find, find a place
With the darkest of
Skies

Look up, look up
See the heavens
Sparkling, shimmering
Glimmering with star light

Find Polaris, north star
The focal point that
The world guides by
Or did before

Back when
constellations guided
And marked the turning
Turning of the world

Aries the ram in the spring
Ursa major in the summer
Orion, hunter with his great belt
Harold of colder days

Stars, constellations, galaxies
Ever in their cycle
In sync with the earth
With the wanderers

Roman deities
Dancing in celestial orbit
Spinning through
Darkness

Marionettes to gravity
Pulled ever around
Helios rides, chariot of fire
Giving earth

Bright and dark
Lighting Seline
Goddess who pulls tides
In their own dance

Pulling high and low
All the webs
All connected
Yet we barely notice

Bright heavens
Vaster than we know
Missed for the glow
Of external illumination
