The prompt that sparked these two poems was jokingly named poems of salt, things we disliked, this that frustrated us. There were a lot of heavy poems the week we wrote these. Mine are a bit lighter, a bit more metaphoric but still have themes that are important to me.
What poems of salt would you write? Happy reading.
Time to Read
There is not enough time
Not enough time
To go adventuring
To find new lands
To meet dragons
Not enough time
To search
For treasure
To fight pirates
Or to become one
Not enough time
To wonder Fangorn Forest
To visit the Glittering Caves
Find a land
Locked in a wardrobe
Not enough time
To become a knight
But maybe time
To still fight
For a mighty cause
There is not enough
Time to read
For all the books
Good thing I already
Found my true love
Dragons
In Beowulf
In The Hobbit
In western legends
Dragons are creatures
Creatures of beauty
Of magnificence but
Creatures of evil.
I do so love though,
Modern depictions of
Bright jem like scales
Strong of wing
Creatures of power
Creatures of pride
Creatures that protect
No creature, no race
Fantasy or true
Deserves to be
Locked forever
In one state
Dragons evolved
So must we too

The dragon poem reminds me of the contrast between Western and Eastern dragons. I’d once written a poem about that contrast. Sadly, it hasn’t survived. I’ve attempted to write a new one, but so far, I haven’t had any luck.
