Title: The Final Girl Support Group
Author: Grady Hendrix
Publication Date: 2021
Publishing House: Berkley Books

I borrowed this book from the library as an audiobook for my trip to Ireland.

Goodreads Synopsis:

In horror movies, the final girl is the one who’s left standing when the credits roll. The one who fought back, defeated the killer, and avenged her friends. The one who emerges bloodied but victorious. But after the sirens fade and the audience moves on, what happens to her?

Lynnette Tarkington is a real-life final girl who survived a massacre twenty-two years ago, and it has defined every day of her life since. And she’s not alone. For more than a decade she’s been meeting with five other actual final girls and their therapist in a support group for those who survived the unthinkable, putting their lives back together, piece by piece. That is until one of the women misses a meeting and Lynnette’s worst fears are realized–someone knows about the group and is determined to take their lives apart again, piece by piece.

But the thing about these final girls is that they have each other now, and no matter how bad the odds, how dark the night, how sharp the knife, they will never, ever give up.

I’m not a huge horror fan but I’ve been enjoying Hendrix horror novels recently. From reading this book the reading the audience can tell that the author really knows the horror genre from books to film franchises. He likes to take well know tropes and twist them, giving them a new flair.

Lynnette is paranoid and has survived since the incident that made her a final girl. She lives in a version of this world filled with monsters that slaughtered her entire family. The other final girls deal with their own trauma in their own unique ways. I enjoyed this dive into the horror film and what happens after the credits role. These women are strong, they survived something that should have killed them and they kept fighting when the monsters came back after them.

I suggest this book for fans of horror films, for fans of thriller books, and for fans of Grady Hendrix. Do you enjoy horror and thriller novels? If yes, let me know your favorite. See you in the comments. Happy reading!
