Orcas Island: Mainland & San Juan Ferry

Okay, I finally got this video done. I don’t really want to talk about why it took so long. Blame ADHD and life. That being said, I still think about this trip. I loved Orcas Island and the Pacific Northwest in general. We did a lot before we stepped onto Orcas. I do want to note that getting there is not easy: fly to Seattle –> drive to Anacortes –> ferry to Orcas. That being said, the journey to get there is part of the adventure.

Mainland

  • Seattle: While in Seattle we did a number of things from exploring Pike Place Market to going to a Mariner’s (baseball) game. I’ve talked about going to Pike Place Market in other posts, I just love markets. We actually got to see them throw the fish this time! The first time we visited in 2020, that was not happening due to covid. The Mariner’s game was fun, they have a nice covered stadium. I honestly don’t remember if they won or lost the game but it was a good time.
  • Deception Pass: Deception Pass is beautiful. Please note that the actual pass is a bridge. There is also Deception Pass State Park. The actual pass and the state park are next to each other but you can visit the pass without going to the state park. We did cross the bridge and go underneath it. This is an active bridge that cars do cross, so please be careful.
  • Anacortes Ferry Port: There are a few ways to get to Orcas and the other San Juan Islands, you can technically have someone fly you but the most common route is to take the ferry. A few pointers if you are taking the ferry:
    • Get a reservation or you will be on standby
    • Get to the ferry terminal early – like an hour early
    • The tickets are round trip but they are kind of expensive, just as a heads up
    • You can drive, walk on, or bike onto the ferry – they do cost different amounts
    • Once on the ferry it is worth it to get out of your vehicle and walk outside to take in the view

Have you been to Orcas or taken a ferry? Let me know in the comments. Safe travels
