Utah: Hiking Bryce Valley National Park

We gave the mules and horse a day off. Part of the group we were with went fishing. We had fresh fish for breakfast the next morning and it was wonderful. While they were fishing, we went hiking in Bryce Canyon National Park. We hired a driver service to pick us up at the horse park where we were staying. The driver then dropped us off at the shuttle stop for Bryce Canyon.

If you are planning to visit Bryce Canyon, I 100% recommend taking the shuttle. The shuttle stops at the main visitor points. We spoke to the shuttle driver and they did say that sometimes there is not enough parking. Save yourself the headache, take the shuttle.

Trails We Hiked

We hiked a number of interconnected trails this trip and when up and down several sets up switchbacks. Over 6 miles and almost 2,000 feet of elevation gain. My legs were screaming but I wouldn’t change a thing. There are trails that we did not hike, like the Fairyland Loop and we rode the Peekaboo Loop the next evening. Here are the ones we did take.

  • Sunrise Point along the Queen’s Garden Trail we turned up the Navajo Loop Trail to the Sunset Point. We hiked past the Thor’s Hammer formation.
  • Navajo Loop to Wall Street. So beautiful, the way the sunlight came through the rocks was incredible but getting up and down those switchbacks was killer.
  • Rim Trail from Sunset Point to Inspiration Point and Bryce Point. The hike up to these points was steep. If I did this hike again, I would start at Bryce Point and hike down hill. The shuttle will drop you off at Bryce Point, it’s where we got picked up at the end of our hike.

The video below is set to start at our hike in Bryce (I hope). I was always out of breath, either from awe or elevation gain. I’ve seen some pretty awesome sights and Bryce Canyon is high on that list. Have you ever been to this national park? If so, what did you think? Let me know in the comments.
