Amsterdam: Day Two

Day two started with us crossing the river on the no. 3 ferry. The ferries are free and, at least during the day, run consistently. These ferries are for bikers and pedestrians… mostly. We did see one tiny EV car use the ferry. I think I’ve seen dogs bigger than that car.

Canal Cruise

If you visit Amsterdam take a canal tour. There are a ton of companies that run them for about the same price. We took our canal cruise through Hop On Hop Off Holland. Some of these tours are recorded audio tours and some have a tour guide. The tour we went on did have the recorded audio but our boat driver had a ton of additional information paired with terrible dad jokes.

We learned a lot of history on this tour and got to see parts of the city that we hadn’t seen yet. Two facts that you learn on the canal tours and the walking tours is that the houses start sinking and then they start leaning sideways. That’s not good. The other thing you learn is that a ridiculous number of bikes end up in the canals each year. I’m talking upwards of 15,000. They are removed by special boats and repurposed.

A’dam Lookout

The Lookout at the A’dam tower was one of those things that we heard about on our walking tour and on the canal tour. The locals don’t really go up there and do the swings. A’dam Lookout is 100 meters in the air and the swings take you over the edge. Neither Keltin and I are adrenaline seekers but we did the swings and it was fun. The A’dam Lookout has bean bags. Yes, it was cold on the Lookout. Yes, it was worth it to chill on the bean bags for a bit (picture below)

We chose to do both of these on the same day because they were both on the same side of the river IJ (yes, I checked that spelling). It was a fun day without being too busy. Would you do these swings? Let me know in the comments.
