Writing Group: Music and Emotions

Hello all, the prompt for this week was pick a song and write about the emotions that it evokes. Some of the resulting pieces were sweet, some were relaxing, and there was a bit of trauma. Art is not always bright and happy, sometimes it’s dark and painful, sometimes it is not beautiful but it always meaningful.

One of the things that we always work to do in writing club is make sure the space is inclusive and safe for everyone because sometimes people process pain through art. We as a group want to ensure that everyone feels comfortable doing so.

My Song Choice: Fair by The Amazing Devil

And he holds her close, just to
Keep the world at bay
One of my favorite love songs
One that does not look at
Big moments
Instead it explores
Those little things

I know exactly what I want
And it’s this life that we’ve created
So many books,
So many films
Dive head first into
Grand gestures
But love is found in those
Mundane everyday moments
Being there, being consistent
Day in and day out

Darlin’, I was born to press my head
Between your shoulder blades, at night
When light is fading
Quiet moments
Gentle intimacy
Fair, our final dance song
Just us two, emotional
In all the best ways
And exhausted

It’s not fair, it’s not fair how
Much I love you
This song always, always
Makes me think of you
Has from the first
How much I love, love
Our little moments
When you annoy me
When you hold me
When you indulge me

How unreasonable in love
I am with everything you do
And it’s true.
Every stupidly sweet thing
You do
