This is not the first time I have been to monument rocks but that first visit was several years ago. It was ridiculously cold and windy. I was very excited to have a chance to go again – especially with the film cameras.

I do not remember what film I was using on this adventure, probably Kodak or Ilford HP5 but I love the way these photos turned out. Yes, I like clear pictures but the graininess of these black and white photos give off this older, explorer of untouched places vibe. The film that Keltin used is actually IMAX film cut to fit medium format (120 film), that is why the sprockets are visible. I can take digital pictures all day but there is something about film with the limited shots and having to wait to get them developed that I adore. In this fast paced world, it forces me to slow down.
The Chalk Pyramids/Monument Rocks are free to visit but they are on private property that has been opened to the public. If you visit be respectful. There are no restrooms and there is no water out here and places to stop and get things aren’t exactly close. Just keep those in mind if you visit. Safe travels and leave no trace.
