Helping Out a Friend | Writing Group Update

Life throws us interesting curve balls. A little over two years ago Keltin and I joined the Denton Writing Club on a whim as a chance to explore creative writing with like-mined people. We have made some amazing friends being part of this community. That being said: I never thought that I would end up leading the group.

In December of 2024 the partner (Thomas) of the Founder and President of the Denton Writing Club (Ethan) was diagnosed with a brain tumor. The hope is that it is benign but the truth is that due to the tumors location the doctors have to remove it before they can test it.

Removing the tumor will involve a 10 to 15 hour surgery that at best will conclude with my friend losing the hearing in one ear. Worst case scenario the tumor is cancerous and my friend will have to undergo chemo and/or radiation. Recovery for the best case can take up to a year.

To that end Ethan and his partner have moved to be closer to the specialist required for this type of operation and recovery. Ethan has asked that I take over the running of the Denton Writing Club. I’m a bit nervous, a bit excited, but overall honored that I have been trusted to continue this club that has become a close community.

If you would like to help out Tomas with the ridiculous about of medical bills that he is about to be saddle with please consider donating to his GoFundMe.

Writing Prompts

These are some of my favorite writing prompts over the last couple of years.

Thank you Ethan for bringing this community together and thank you for trusting me with it.
