Writing Group: Poetry

April in National Poetry Month. The prompt for this week was to write a poem of dedication to something we admire or find beautiful. I wrote two about love and about books. Happy reading.

Ode to Love

Love, an odd emotion
Displaying itself in
So many ways.
Of’t imagined as
Grand gestures
Wild passions
Whirlwind romance

At the start that
Maybe true
Time progresses
Love separates
From infatuation

Love stays with work
With those simple acts
Kisses in the morning
Hugs all day
Gentle support
Or enabling
But only the
Healthy things

Love can be
Putting up with
The right
Ridiculousness
Bad jokes
Odd ideas
Proper amounts
Of chaos

A beautiful dance
Of giving
Of taking
Of learning
To understand
Your lovers
Language of love

Ode to Stories

I was going to write
This to books
To the stories we read
To the stories we tell
We each read
A different story
As we each
Have different lives
Differences experiences –
We love different
We hate different
We feel different
About the words
Marked upon the page
And each time
We read the words
We are different
Changed each day
By life
By words
By the stories
We make
