Writing Group XXVII: Poetry

Here is a bit of a late Valentine’s Day poem from our writing group. The topic for this week was romance in any form. I did not win writer of the week but Keltin did get 2nd place. Happy (late) Valentine’s Day.

Happily Ever After

Happily ever after,
That’s what the fairy tales say
Happens at the end
But is it always happy?

As it turns out
Happy takes work
And then life happens
Barreling through.

Happily ever after is eye rolls
at bad jokes, tickle matches that
have someone nearly falling,
Falling off the bed, still laughing.

Happily ever after is communication
Difficult conversation:
Budget, jobs, kids,
future plans, and wills.

Happily ever after is balance
Compromising when needed
Setting clear boundaries
Respecting the individual

Happily ever after is support
A shoulder to cry on
Taking turns sharing
The weight of the world

Happily ever after is dating
Planned days and nights
Time and effort to
Keep the magic dancing

Happily ever after is work
Love is work
Hearts only take two
Lovers so far

Happily ever after is love
Soft kisses
Warm hugs and
More private things

Happily ever after is worth it all
Worth the energy
Worth the effort
Worth the investment of life

Happily ever after,
That’s what the fairy tales say.
It can be happy, if you both
Make it so.
