Small Town Kansas in Film

Over the summer we went to Keltin’s home town for the 4th of July. Keltin’s parents gave us their old Pentax K1000 35mm camera. The only film owe had for it right then was a roll of 400iso Kodak film that had expired 20 years before. Thankfully, expired film can be used. Quick research told me to drop the film one stop for every 10 years the film had been expired. So I shot 400iso film at 100iso.

The playground photo and water tower above were taken with expired film. The others were taken on film that we ordered that is 400iso film.

Keltin took these photos on the Rollicord. I think a comparison of the red train caboose is a fun look at the differences between the Pentax and K1000. It is not only the light settings when the picture was taken that create the differences but the development process and the scanner used. There are a lot of little nuances to film photography.

Film has been an interesting art to learn. I have another role of expired film that I’m excited to shoot. Here is to trying new things. Safe travels.
