I want to point out that the middle of the summer is NOT the tourist season in Arizona and I don’t recommend it. That being said, we were there in the summer and so we explored. It was nice exploring with few people around but on the other side of that a lot of the art galleries weren’t open either. Also, the heat kicked my butt this day and we didn’t do too much.
We did see a couple of neat things like the Old Adobe Mission. Yes, it was closed but it is a landmark and is the oldest standing church in Scottsdale. This church was build in the 1910’s and was later restored from 2000 to 2009. There is also a neat little park across First St from the Mission that offered a nice relief from the sun.
One of the shops that we did visit on Main Street was Native Art Market. This shop does sell art made by the native tribes of Arizona but it is also owned and operated by them. There was a really cool piece of art that showed the plants that different traditions fabric dyes are made from. This was a really neat shop and it felt good to support local artists.
Most of the pictures Keltin took on this trip were taken on 120mm film and we did find a wonderful film shop in Scottsdale called Wilson Camera. They did the development and scans of all the photos below and those in the video below. If you are interested in film and are in the area, they are a good place to start.
Given the chance, I would like to see more of Scottsdale when the heat is not trying to kill me. Yes, I drank plenty of water but taking some electrolytes is what really helped. Have you ever been to Scottsdale, if so, what did you think? Let me know in the comments! See more of Old Town Scottsdale in my video below and safe travels.
