Ashford: Fir Cabin Airbnb

One thing that I did not realize before visiting Ashford, Washington was that for as tiny as the town is about half of it is cabins and lodges for visitors to Mount Rainier National Park. We visited the park after Memorial Day but before for the true busy season when the majority of the wild flowers are in bloom. I highly suggest visiting at in early summer. We didn’t have any issue getting into the park or hiking any of the trails we wanted to. We were told that over Memorial Day weekend there was up to a three hour wait to get into the park.

Fir cabin is just a mile from the entrance of Mount Rainier National Park that is closest to the Longmire Visitor Center. I selected this cabin because it had the amenities we wanted, good reviews and was priced well.

This cabin is tiny but it is perfect for a couple’s escape. Queen bed, kitchenette, a small bathroom along with a wood-burning stove are perfect for a quiet weekend away from the city. The cabin does have a fire-pit and picnic table outside. We did not use them only because it rained for much of our trip. We did however, use the wood-burning stove and it warmed the cabin up nicely. There is no A/C in the cabin.

The kitchenette is small but it has everything you could ask for. In the cabinets are pots and pans along with a hot plate. The cabin also has a mini fridge and microwave. There are some basic spices also if needed.

The cabin has instructions for lighting the wood-burning stove along with plenty of logs for chilly nights. The cabin does have wifi and a tv. We loved staying here. It add an authentic feel in conjunction with visiting this beautiful national park.

A note on Ashford. The town does have a general store but it is expensive due to the distance from any large city. It is good in emergencies but if you are planning on preparing many of your own meals I suggest stopping for groceries before Ashford. We loved staying in and visiting Ashford, there are lots of great restaurants that I’ll write about soon. Safe travels.
