Exploring Wimberley

On our last morning in Wimberley we were up before sunrise so that we could climb the 218 steps up to the top of Old Baldy Mountain to see the dawn. This park sits in the middle of a neighborhood. So when you drive by homes on the way there don’t be surprised. Also, watch out for all the deer grazing on the roadside. Every so often on the climb up the stairs there are cute little painted rocks giving encouragement.

Even if you don’t like stairs the view from the top is worth it. You are given a 360° of the surrounding valley. When we go back down to the bottom we met a couple out for a walk that warned us that anything said on top of Old Baldy at more than normal volume can be heard by those at the base. Beware if you visit!

After our dawn adventure we went back to our cabin for a good breakfast and to pack up. Before leaving the hill country we made our way to downtown Wimberley to explore for a bit. We found some neat little shops, including an outdoor gear store where the owner draws fantastic decals. Don’t miss the local street art either!

Wimberley was charming and the people were all nice and helpful. Happy to give direction or just talk for a bit and tell you about the area. I can’t wait to go back.

  1. Looks great! I especially liked the painted rocks. It’s interesting that voices carry while on top of the mountain!
