Foodie Friday: Brussels Sprouts

Brussels sprouts are not a vegetable that I’ve eaten much of. On New Years Eve my sisters and I went out to eat and guess which vegetable came with the lamb? Brussels sprouts. They really pair well with the rest of the dish.

This week rolls around and the local farmers market has Brussels sprouts and I decided to try my hand at cooking them. After a very short bit of research I decide to halve them, boil them for 10 minutes or so before browning them up a bit in a skillet with butter, salt and pepper.

Mine were a bit salty I’ll admit but that is an easy change and over all the flavor was good. Out of curiosity though I wanted to see how other pre-pared theirs and the internet did not disappoint.

Here are some of the suggestions that I want to try:

Thanks to the wonderful people on the internet I have a variety of ways to try cooking these. Have you tried any of these? If so, which is your favorite? Hope you are having a happy New Year and happy Friday!

  1. Oh yum! I discovered brussels sprouts the last few years and they are now my favorite! I fry them in butter, sometimes with olive oil; add salt and pepper, sometimes sprinkle a little Parmesan cheese on top and they are like vegetable candy! Only my husband won’t touch them so I get to have them all to myself and make broccoli for him! 🙂
