Keltin and I enjoy Christmas light but this year we wanted to do something different than driving around looking as houses decorated with lights. Not that we do not enjoy looking at Christmas light that way but we had done it the past two years. Instead we decided to go see the 12 Days of Christmas at The Dallas Arboretum.

The night was perfect: cold and crisp. The Arboretum was busy but not packed. The event is only open Wednesday through Sunday at six. We got there just as they opened. There is a tree lined walkway by the main entrance that was covered in lights with a musician playing holiday music as we walked past. The walkway lead right to the first of the 12 gazebos that each contain one of the 12 Days of Christmas. Each gazebo is surrounded by trees covered in white lights and Christmas music plays just loud enough to be heard over the murmur of conversations.

My prefered of the gazebos were the first seven with the various birds and five gold rings. Of all of them though my favorite was the Seven Swans A-Swimming. Bright white light shining on a silver world with six white swans and a single black swan.

In addition to the gazebos they have a giant Christmas tree decorated with red and silver ornaments. It was quite a magical evening. At home that night we warmed up with homemade hot cocoa with marshmallows and watched Christmas Vacation.
